Waving Good-Bye to Gumtree

Good-bye Gumtree

Gumtree, one of the UK’s largest websites, has decided to shut down its New Zealand operations as of March 2015. While Gumtree’s closure might come as a shock to its users, its fans luckily still have an alternative to the paid monopolist Trade Me: Post a Note, New Zealand’s own free classified site, is rapidly gaining in popularity and will be happy to include former Gumtree users in its own community.

Post a Note is based on the South Island but has recently expanded to the North, winning more fans across New Zealand every day! As a free community-based website we are more than a “venue” to exchange goods and services. We pride ourselves with creating personal connections to our members through passionate, energetic “on-the-ground” Community Managers and excellent customer service, unmet in this industry. We don’t charge for phone calls and we respond to all inquiries with a quick turnaround. Even as we grow, the community is our number one priority and will always remain so.

Post a Note employs people all over New Zealand, spends money in the community, and helps individuals, non-profits, and businesses buy, sell, and swap second-hand goods. Guess what? If you sell an item for $500, you keep $500!!! There are no success fees, no listing fees, no fees of any kind. And as opposed to other sites who have made these claims in the past but didn’t live up to their promises, Post a Note will NEVER change this concept (our expenses are covered through ad revenue only). After all, we see our community members as “friends” and we would never charge our friends for the help and services we provide. Would you?

So, tell all your friends and/or former Gumtree users to join this “free revolution.” Gumtree might be a sinking ship, but its members don’t have to go down with it. Luckily, there is a life raft: Post a Note!
