Giving the Gift of “a Future”

Books for Africa Project

With Christmas coming closer, most of us are likely focusing on what presents we shall get for our loved ones. While this seems to add a lot of stress to our daily lives, in other parts of the world, people are wondering how they can get an education to eventually be able to support their families, let alone buying presents. Compared to those concerns, our Christmas presents dilemma fades. This week, the Post a Note Team would like to introduce you to Rita Dewhirst, the woman behind the Books for Africa Project on Post a Note.

The Best Gift is to Plant Seeds

What’s the best gift you have ever received? A video game? A laptop? Tickets for your favourite band?
How about “education”? That’s the answer I got when asking the same question – in Africa. For the kids there, education is like a seed planted in the mind, nurtured through the belief that it will sprout and grow in the future. It’s the spark that will light a fire and show the way to a brighter future. It’s an opportunity for hope.

Wouldn’t you give someone the gift of a brighter future if you could?

You can!!! One book at a time you, well… we all, can make a change.

Through the incredible generosity of United Fisheries and a few altruistic key distributers I am able to send an entire 20ft container over to Tanzania in February 2015.

The main idea is to ship as many non-fiction educational books as possible, because these are essential in delivering the education needed. They help students of all generations to jump start the futures they hope and dream for. After all, education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world1.

Besides educational material, other essential donations include:
- Children’s toys (e.g. unwanted Christmas gifts)
- Old but still functional laptops
- First aids items
- Bedding such as duvets, sleeping bags, sheets
- Stationary
- Money donations (every single cent is being used to buy essential resources)

This is an ambitious project and definitely can’t happen without YOU! What’s certain, however, is that this shipment will be a life changing event for many.
